Platelet rich plasma

Blood consists of many different components, and each one has its own specific task. The growth factors in the liquid part of the blood, or plasma, can be used to activate the healing and restructuring process in the surrounding tissues. A concentrate of growth factors isolated from blood plasma can be used for:

  • to accelerate postoperative recovery;
  • to reduce postoperative swelling;
  • to reduce wrinkles in the face and decollate area;
  • to harmonize the complection of the entire face;
  • to restore the volume of the lips;
  • to harmonize and lighten the dark circles that appear underneath the eyes;
  • to stimulate hair growth;
  • to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

The plasma is separated from the ampoule of blood using centrifugation. After separation the concentrate of plasma will be injected to the desired region. Due to the high concentration of platelets and growth factors the tissue in the injection area thinks that the region is severely damaged and requires urgent treatment. The natural healing process is activated and the generation of new skin cells, collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, microvascular tissue and fat tissue begins.

Possible areas of use of platelet rich plasma

Plastic surgery

In order to accelerate and relieve healing the platelet rich plasma concentrate is injected into the surgical area during the procedure, and before the wounds are closed. Plasma therapy has the greatest impact on facial, neck and ocular area surgery since it allows patients to return to regular life faster than normal.

Deep facial wrinkles – nasolabial creases, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles

There are several causes for the formation of wrinkles in the face – the most important of these can be considered skin that has become more emaciated and fragile due to decline in collagen and hyaluronic acid production and the decrease in fat tissue in the face. As a result of facial expressions, the first folds emerge in the fine and fragile skin which as time goes on develop into wrinkles.

The most common method for getting rid of wrinkles is to inject the filler under the wrinkle. However, this approach combats the consequences and does not solve the problem.

When injecting plasma concentrate into the problem area, a natural healing process is triggered. As a result of the healing process, the wrinkles gradually decrease, and the skin tightens and becomes more elastic.

Plasma therapy differs from filler injections in terms of outcome. In case of filler injections, the wrinkles are filled from the underneath with the filler and the result is immediately visible. With plasma therapy, the results will gradually appear within 2-3 months, as the healing process in the body takes time. As the plasma therapy uses a concentrate obtained from the patient’s own blood (without the addition of additives), there is no chance of developing an allergic reaction.

The procedure may last for up to one hour. Before the injections the injection area should be anesthetized with an analgesic cream. After the procedure, there is a slight redness at the injection site, which disappears within a few hours. In individual cases, the injected skin area may develop a delicate bruise, which can be hidden by a foundation cream. Depending on the desired result, it may be necessary to repeat the procedure.

As with the face, over time, collagen and hyaluronic acid production will also decline in the lips. Due to this, the lips’ volume decreases and wrinkles may appear. The usual method is to restore the lips and smooth the wrinkles by filling the lips with filler injections.

For those who want to invigorate their lips in a more natural way, we recommend using plasma therapy instead of filler injections. As blood plasma therapy triggers a new healing and restructuration process in the lips, the vertical lip wrinkles will shrink, and the decreased volume of the lips will be restored.

Rejuvention of the skin of neck, décolleté, face and hands

In order to improve the complexion of the entire face area, to make the facial skin more elastic, and eliminate the folds and wrinkles, we recommend combining the plasma therapy with the microneedling procedure. In ArtiaClinic we use Dermapen microneedling device that generates millions of micro-channels in the skin by extremely fine needles, leading the plasma concentrate, and, optionally, nutrients, into the deeper layers of the skin.

Dark circles under the eyes

The main cause of dark circles under the eyes are blood vessels, which gradually start to gleam through the fine skin under the eye. By injecting a concentrate of blood plasma to problem area, a healing and regeneration process is activated. The production of new skin cells, collagen, and hyaluronic acid begin, which results in thickening of the thin skin under the eyes. Gradually the area will even out and the dark circles will decrease.

Scalp and hair

When delivering plasma by injecting or using micro-needling to the scalp it is possible to stimulate hair growth and thereby combat premature thinning of hair and slowing hair growth.

Aesthetically unpleasing scars or stretch marks

Combining blood plasma therapy with micro-needling can also improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks. In the case of very large scars, transplantation of the patient’s own fat under the scar may also be necessary.
